Pelvis – Little Part of Our Body –
Big Problem?

Studying the traditional European medical sciences along with those based on ancient Eastern philosophies, it becomes clear how little we really know about the human body and system - this is what our seemingly contradictory title refers to.

Lets go back in time about six thousand years to the first real master of ayurvedic medicine, Kapila, who encompassed the medicines of ancient cultures and the wisdoms of yoga into a book describing the functions of the human body. According to his philosophy, in the pelvis near the bladder and the sacrum are energy gates that can be "opened" to release tension and energize the body. Also according to this belief lower in the pelvis by the top of the tailbone is another energy known as kundalini strength that can be navigated to any place in the body through meditation.

A couple thousand years later, in the first traditional Chinese medical book, The Yellow Emperor's Classics of Internal Medicine, the area of the pelvis is also brought up, and a spot named the "lower than-thien" in the frontal lower part of the abdomen is defined as one of the distinguished energetic points. Similar is the Japanese "hara", which identifies this same region in the body as the place from which all energy radiates out. The first European medical science is founded on Hippocrates, the ancient Greek medical philosopher, who refers to the large intestine in his writings on "death resides in the bowels" which in large part borders and is in contact with the pelvic bone. In today's medicine the term "abdominal immunity" refers to the fact that in 2/3 part the immune system is in the area of the abdomen, around the small and large intestines.

This explains our title, which means that if there is a problem in the pelvis, there is something wrong in the system as a whole.

Lets look at some of the most common symptoms to which many times there seems to be no logical explanation:

  • convulsive pelvic pain, which can start out from the ovaries, or from cramps around the bladder causing a feeling of inflammation;
  • not infectious but chronic vaginal drip which can sometimes be stronger or weaker in amount;
  • painful menstruation with cramps;
  • occasional, non-infectious vaginal irritation which can be painful with increased micturition, or need to urinate, and even difficulty in holding urine for normal periods of time;
  • occurrence of chronic drip from the efforts of urination - incontinence;
  • common lower back pain, constant dull pain around in the kidney area, but with no traces of infectious agents;
  • susceptibility to cold, primarily in the legs and especially below the ankles;
  • constant exhaustion, sleepiness;
  • irritability, anxiety, depressive thoughts, as associated symptoms.

The above symptoms are amplified with cold, rainy, overcast, or windy weather, as well as increased spiritual burdens. Furthermore, one's condition may worsen with the total lack of or not regular spiritual and physical connection to somebody.

For men the symptoms are similar but in addition there can be a decrease in sexuality, impotency, frequent urination, and enlargement of the prostate.

The above list of symptoms does not apply to one particular illness, but instead signal disorder in the body, which influences the body's endurance, capabilities, and load bearing. As a direct effect of this the capacity of the immune system is decreased, the acid-base balance is disturbed, and in increasing degrees a person-specific combination of the mentioned symptoms appears.

What can be done?

Passing on the "wisdoms" of life is quite difficult since each person has his or her own burdens to carry in life, and maybe one who has burdens can be the happiest because it means he has for example a job and a family to care for. But for those who do not have this gift and may not have a workplace or partner in life, or even lack all goal oriented occupations, philanthropic engagements can be the answer and can bring tranquility, self-respect, a positive outlook, and even joy.

To alleviate physical complaints I suggest the following:
For constant urinary discharge, compulsive urination, and other accompanying inconveniences, warm undergarments, shoes, and hosiery are effective.

Diet: Foods rich in alkalis are indispensable such as squash-like foods (for example brown rice, millet, and buckwheat), vegetables, especially asparagus, as well as parsley, lovage, carrot and other roots, parsley, caper, celery, lovage and carrot greens splashed with pumpkin-seed oil and seasoned with antifermenting spices (thyme, pepper-grass, anise, fennel, cinnamon, marjoram and wild marjoram, and paprika). Try to avoid sweets and replace them with oil-rich seeds , leguminous or sheathed plants are also important. Along with vitamins and minerals, the body needs biotic products which are responsible for the harmonious life of the microorganisms inside the body.

External treatment

Warm horsetail steam and a bath with a few drops of juniper oil. If necessary, vaginal douche with patience-dock seed brew (in 1 liter put 1 drop tea-plant and 1 drop grapefruit seed oil). If possible, sulphurous baths are beneficial as well.

Herbal treatment: cranberry products, bearberry, ling (Calluna vulgaris) and cranberry teas, all relieve the symptoms, but these should be used only for a few weeks as treatment.

This may seem to be a strange suggestion at first but for better functioning of the kidney and stomach organs it is better to not diet in colder periods of the year. Around the kidney and the belly button it is beneficial to have a small cushion of fat for heat conservation.

To bear everyday stress it is essential to do thirty minutes of some kind of dynamic sport regularly, which can be a form of enjoyment as well. This stimulates metabolism at the cellular level, hormones responsible for feeling of happiness are released, and thus our capacity to endure stress increases.

In the morning and at night before going to bed one should do at least five minutes of breathing exercises. Other exercises building inner strength (yoga, tai-chi, chi-kung) are valuable too. For an especially soothing night's sleep take a hot shower or bath before going to bed, put a few drops of lavender oil on your pillow, and make sure your bed is away from radiation and electro-smog.

Most importantly though, always be aware that if there is a real crisis, there is always a good friend to hold our hand – and this should also be true vice versa.
